The First Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML) 2009 Call for Papers

General Information
The 1st Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML'09) will be held in November 2-4, 2009, Nanjing, China. The conference aims at providing a leading international forum for researchers in Machine Learning and related fields to share their new ideas and achievements. Submissions from other than the Asia-Pacific regions are also highly encouraged. The conference calls for research papers reporting original investigation results. The conference also solicits proposals focusing on frontier research in all aspects of machine learning.

Advanced Data Mining and Applications 2009 Call for Papers

A growing attention has been paid to the study, development and application of data mining. As a result there is an urgent need for sophisticated techniques and tools that can handle new fields of data mining, e.g. spatial data mining in the context of spatial-temporal characteristics, streaming data mining, and biomedical data mining. Our knowledge on data mining should also have to be expanded to new applications. The 5 th International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications (ADMA2009) aims at bringing together the experts on data mining in the world, and provides a leading international forum for the dissemination of original research results in data mining, spanning applications, algorithms, software and systems, and different applied disciplines with potential in data mining.

The 1st International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications (ADMA 2005) was successfully held in Wuhan , China , and the proceedings were published by Springer in LNAI 3584. The 2nd International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications (ADMA 2006) was held in Xi'An , China , and the proceedings were also published by Springer in LNAI 4093. The 3rd ADMA 2007 was sponsored by Harbin Institute of Technology, and the proceedings were published by Springer in LNAI 4632. The 4th ADMA 2008 was held by Sichuan University, and the proceedings were published by Springer in LNAI 5139.
The proceedings of the 5th conference (ADMA2009) will be published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Computer Science series, and indexed by EI. A selected number of the accepted papers will be expanded and revised for possible inclusion in "Knowledge and Information Systems: An International Journal" ( http://www.cs.uvm.edu/~kais/ ) by Springer.

In the great digital era, we are witnessing many rapid scientific andtechnological developments in human-centred, seamless computing environments,interfaces, devices, and systems with applications ranging from business andcommunication to entertainment and learning. These developments arecollectively best characterized as Active Media Technology (AMT), a new areaof intelligent information technology and computer science that emphasizes theproactive, seamless roles of interfaces and systems as well as new media inall aspects of digital life. An AMT based system offers services to enable therapid design, implementation and support of customized solutions.

The first International Conference on Active Media Technology(AMT01) was held in Hong Kong in 2001, the second InternationalConference on Active Media Technology (AMT04) was held in Chongqing,China in May 29-31 of 2004, the third International Conference onActive Media Technology (AMT05) was held in Kagawa, Japan in May2005, and the fourth International Conference on Active MediaTechnology (AMT06) was held in Brisbane, Australia in June 7-9,2006. Following the success of AMT01, AMT04, AMT05 and AMT06, theFifth International Conference on Active Media Technology (AMT09)will be held in Beijing, China in October 22-24, 2009.

Active Media Technology 2009 will be jointly held with the 2009International Conference on Brain Informatics (BI 2009). The twoconferences will have a joint opening, keynote, reception, andbanquet. Attendees only need to register for one conference and canattend workshops, sessions, exhibits and demonstrations across the twoconferences.

The 22nd Australasian Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence Call for Papers

Aim and Scope:

The Australasian Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence is a successful event held annually to promote research in AI and scientific interchange among researchers and practitioners in the field of Aritificial Intelligence. AI'09 is the 22nd in the series.The conference is hosted by Monash University, Faculty of Information Technology and will be co-located with the Australasian Data Mining Conference (AusDM '09) and the Third Australian Conference on Artificial Life (ACAL'09). The conference will be held at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia, between 1 and 4 December 2009.

Theme/Topics:

Prospective authors are invited to submit original and unpublished work on all areas of Artificial Intelligence. The conference topics include, but are not, restricted to, the following:

ECIR2009-4th MUIA Workshop Call for Papers

The 4th International Workshop on Mobile and Ubiquitous Information Access will be held at the European Conference on Information Retrieval. As with previous workshops in the series, this workshop will provide a forum to investigate the many problems of providing information to users on the move. Devices range from web tablets and music players, through mobile phones to PDAs and tablet PCs. Developments in terms of device and network capability continue to transform the opportunities for novel methods of accessing information, and to improve existing techniques.

The workshop will provide a forum for those from traditional and mobile information retrieval communities to engage with experts in mobile computing and interaction. Accepted papers will be produced in workshop proceedings, with revised and re-reviewed post-proceedings versions published in an international journal. During the workshop, we will foster a lively environment for extensive discussion and the creation of new ideas.

Papers may focus on any one of a number of issues in this fast-moving and complex area:

  • Mobile Information retrieval and filtering
  • User modelling and personalisation
  • Mobile device design for information access
  • Context aware information delivery
  • Nomadic computing
  • Ubiquitous computing

Submission format

Submissions should use the standard ACM Proceedings templates, available in Word and LaTeX formats.

Papers may be accepted as full papers (12 pages max.) or short papers (5 pages). Demonstrations and panel proposals are also welcome, accompanied by overview papers of up to 2 pages.

IEEE Intelligent Systems Call for Papers: Mobile Information Retrieval

Mobile information retrieval (mobile IR) is concerned with the indexing and retrieval of information such as text, graphics, animation, sound, speech, image, and video, and their possible combinations for use in mobile devices with wireless network connectivity.

The proliferation of wireless and mobile devices such as personal digital assistants and mobile phones has created a large demand for mobile information content as well as effective mobile IR techniques. New technologies are needed for representing, modeling, indexing, and retrieving mobile data.

This special issue will focus on contributions that expand the state of the art of building intelligent systems for mobile IR. To be considered for this special issue, submissions related to information retrieval on the mobile Web and mobile Internet must address issues specific to mobile IR. We thus solicit original papers on research that

· effectively indexes and retrieves mobile information,

· can be integrated into unified mobile browsing and retrieval systems, and

· gives new insight into scalable algorithms allowing access to very large mobile databases.

We are especially interested in papers that address

· automatic summarization and personalization in mobile information;

· content adaptation for small display devices;

· content-based extraction, indexing, annotation, and retrieval of mobile data;

· context-aware information processing;

· data mining of query logs, clicks, and Web traffic on mobile devices;

· efficient retrieval models and query processing of mobile information from distributed databases;

· extraction of useful semantics in mobile information for indexing and retrieval;

· knowledge discovery through content and keyword fusion in mobile summarization, indexing, and retrieval;

· location-based search for mobile devices;

· mobile learning and user profiling for mobile information retrieval;

· mobile peer tagging and knowledge propagation;

· mobile retrieval across multiple media types, network conditions, and user preferences;

· multimodal user interface technologies;

· scalable browsing algorithms for large mobile databases; and

· spatial data management, mining spatial data generated by mobile users.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions due for review: 13 July 2009

Submissions should be 3,500 to 7,500 words (counting a standard figure or table as 200 words) and should follow the magazine’s style and presentation guidelines (see www.computer.org/portal/pages/intelligent/mc/author.html ). WISE 2009 Call for Paper

The aim of this conference is to provide an international forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners to share their knowledge and experience in the rapidly growing area of Web technologies, methodologies and applications. Research and Industry Tracks

There will be two independent tracks for Research and Industrial papers with a different set of evaluation criteria. The authors must clearly indicate the track to which the paper is being submitted.


Research Papers: The conference is soliciting original research papers on all aspects of Web information systems engineering. Submitted papers will be judged according to their scientific merits and evaluated on significance, originality, technical quality, and exposition.

Industrial and Application Papers: WISE 2009 encourages submissions covering the application of Web information systems engineering in practice, including papers describing innovative implementations, novel applications, and major improvements to the state-of-practice. The papers submitted to this track can range from a few page extended abstract to a full paper. The track will also include a small number of invited visionary papers.

Publication

The proceedings of WISE 2009 will be published in two separate volumes by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Computer Science series, one volume for all papers accepted by the main conference, and one volume for all papers accepted by all WISE workshops. A special issue of the World Wide Web Journal is scheduled in 2010 for publishing extended versions of selected WISE 2009 papers.

RecSys'09: Third ACM Conference on Recommender Systems Call for Paper

CALL FOR PAPERS

We are pleased to invite you once again to participate in the premier annual event on research and applications of recommendation technologies, the Third ACM Conference on Recommender Systems. The previous conferences in Minneapolis and Lausanne have been distinguished by a strong level of interaction between practitioners and researchers in the sharing of ideas, problems and solutions, and the 2009 conference will continue in this tradition. The fully-refereed proceedings will be published by the ACM and, like past RecSys proceedings, are expected to be widely read and cited.

TECHNICAL PROGRAM

The technical program will celebrate the diversity of research in and applications of recommender systems with refereed and invited presentations, keynote talks and posters.

Tutorials

The first day of the conference will be devoted to tutorials in which top practitioners and researchers share their expertise and latest results. The tutorials at the 2008 conference were highly-attended. Workshops

To reflect the diversity of research in recommender systems and to give additional venues for the presentation of research, the conference will feature workshops for the first time. Doctoral Symposium

The Doctoral Symposium provides an opportunity for doctoral students to explore and develop their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of distinguished research faculty.     The Asia Information Retrieval Symposium (AIRS) aims to bring together researchers and developers to exchange new ideas and latest achievements in the field of information retrieval (IR). The scope of the symposium covers applications, systems, technologies and theory aspects of information retrieval in text, audio, image, video and multimedia data.     OSDM 2009 CFP

    Open source software is becoming increasingly accepted in public and private sector organisations in many countries. There is a variety of open source data mining tools available to both researchers and practitioners, some being simple research prototypes while others are fully developed software tools.
